What does Cloud Dancer look like in real candlelight? Inside our editorial installation
We didn't want to imagine this palette. We wanted to build it.
So we transformed The Naval Store — a heritage industrial space in Fremantle — into a dreamlike Cloud Dancer world. Hundreds of glass cylinders filled with white candle sand, each holding a single flame, formed a glowing field across the warehouse floor. Low-lying fog drifted between them, so the candles appeared to float on clouds. Above, layers of soft draping suspended from the beams created a canopy that moved like slow weather.
Two scenes brought the palette to life.
In the first, a ballet dancer moved en pointe through the candlelight and mist — weightless, fluid, almost part of the atmosphere itself. A pianist performed on a baby grand among the flames, adding another layer of artistry and motion.
In the second, a bride walked a long candlelit aisle between two fields of glowing sand candles, her extended veil flowing behind her, mirrored plinths at the aisle's end reflecting the flicker of every flame beneath sculptural white florals.
Ethereal. Emotional. Cinematic.
What we learned matters for every couple considering this palette: white becomes extraordinary the moment light passes through it. Fog catches the glow. Fabric holds it. Sand candle wax diffuses it into something soft and golden. The industrial bones of the venue didn't fight the softness — they gave it depth.
